Young achievers Christmas party

Metro-Manhattan Links, Inc., Alpha Gamma Lambda Chapter, and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. held their Annual Young Achievers Christmas Dinner at the Alma Rangel Senior Citizen Home in Harlem for the Young Achievers Class of 2010 on Dec. 16.

The Young Achievers Program was developed by the Metro-Manhattan Chapter of the Links, Inc., and the Alpha Lambda Gamma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., in 1999. The mission of the program is to help attack the issues challenging adolescent African American and Hispanic males in the Harlem community by arming these young men with effective life skills that will help them make positive transitions from high school to college and beyond.

Young Achiever Chris Gooding, More House College student was the keynote speaker with resounding closing remarks from Hazel Dukes, president NYS NAACP and former president of the Metro Manhattan Links, Inc. Other guest speakers were Erik Cliette, Fred Baptiste, James Powell and Barbara Martin.
