Windies batsman Sarwan recalled

West Indies number three batsman, Ramnaresh Sarwan was named in the West Indies 30-man squad to prepare for next year’s Cricket World Cup in Asia.

The 30-year-old was overlooked for the tour of Sri Lanka and he did not receive a retainer contract. Sarwan has played 83 Tests and 156 One-Day Internationals. He averaged 43.94 in One-Day Internationals. This is the highest for any West Indian batsman presently.

The West Indies Cricket Board had explained Sarwan’s non-inclusion in the team because of his lack of fitness. He last played for the West Indies back in May, 2010 in the second One-Day International against South Africa during their tour of the Caribbean.

The full squad comprises: Darren Sammy (Captain), Lionel Baker, Adrian Barath, Carlton Baugh Jr., Sulieman Benn, Dave Bernard Jr., Tino Best, Devendra Bishoo, Darren Bravo, Dwayne Bravo, Jonathan Carter, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Kirk Edwards, Chris Gayle, Ryan Hinds, Jason Holder, Anthony Martin, Nikita Miller, Nelon Pascal, Kieron Pollard, Kieran Powell, Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Andre Russell, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Devon Smith, Shane Shillingford, Gavin Tonge and Devon Thomas.

The squad will be trimmed to 15 players by Jan. 19 for the World Cup starting Feb. 19 to April 2, 2011 in Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka. The West Indies team will be playing alongside the Netherlands, South Africa, India, England, Ireland and Bangladesh in Group B.

Devendra Bishoo In Squad

Guyanese leg spinner, Devendra Bishoo has been named in the West Indies training squad for the upcoming World Cup in Asia.

Bishoo was named Cricketer of the Year by the Guyana Cricket Board and he performed very well for Guyana and the West Indies A team.

At 25 years he should have a long and distinguished career for Guyana. It is possibile for him to make the Senior West Indies Team soon.

The West Indies won the first two World Tournaments in 1975 and 1979 under the Captaincy of Clive Lloyd before losing to India in the 1983 Final.
