WI lesson from defeat

West Indies Assistant Coach, Roddy Estwick believes there is still much work to be done if the team is to become a major force again in the white-ball formats.

Speaking after the 2-1 defeat in the three-match Twenty20 series against Afghanistan recently in India, Estwick said it was important the Caribbean side continued to learn from their mistakes and improve, especially as they prepare for next year’s Twenty20 World Cup.

“We are building towards the World Cup next year in Australia so we’ve got to keep building blocks and we’ve got to keep learning, and we’ve got to keep teaching then learning will take place and we can grow together as a group and learn from our mistakes, I’m sure will be a lot better,” Estwick said.

He said it was important all players make the best use of the opportunities given them to establish themselves in the squad. The reigning Twenty20 World Champions, opened the Twenty20 series with a 30-run victory but then suffered back-to-bac k defeats against the Afghans in the games following, to concede the series.
