With the group of young talented cricketers gaining the exposure that they so long needed, most of them have shown signs of raw talent and future success. The players include Kirk Edwards, Darren Bravo, Kieron Powell, Devendra Bishoo, Ravi Rampaul, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. These players have shown that they are capable of holding their own under tough conditions.

In spite of the West Indies losing to India in both the Tests and one-day internationals, the players showed their eagerness to compete but were out classed.

Bad West Indies Fielding

Too many catches were dropped by the West Indies in the Tests and one-day internationals: Catches win matches and drop catches lose matches. It is that simple.

Had the West Indies played Fidel Edwards, Ravi Rampaul and Kemar Roach in the same match, the Test results would have shown different figures. Rampaul and Edwards were insufficient fire power and Devendra Bishoo was treated as match practice.

Kirk Edwards Should Be In The One Day Squad

Barbados and West Indies batsman Kirk Edwards should be included in the West Indies one-day squad to build up batting. Aline up with Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell down the order should gain some success in the one-day competitions.

The opening position remains a concern and moreover, Adrian Barath’s injuries have been continuous.

Marlon Samuels must focus on his batting and the captain must not burden him with long spells in Test matches. Darren Sammy, Ravi Rampaul, Davendra Bishoo and Fidel Edwards are supposedly the specialist bowlers and thus are responsible for the wicket taking. This is the main reason why they were chosen in the squad.

Sunil Narine Has An Appealing Future With Windies

Sunil Narine, the Trinidad & Tobago spinner, seems to have taken a liking for the international scene. He has been around playing for his country with great success and if the Test squad needs spinners the other choice will be Mr. Narine along with Devendra Bishoo.

West Indies bowling strength must not be undermined and specialist bowlers must not be on show. Windies must have an ideal partnership strategy in one-day cricket going towards the 50 overs.

Chris Gayle must return to the West Indies squad. The West Indies Cricket Board has mishandled this entire situation with Gayle. Diplomacy works most of the time and the W.I.C.B. should exercise it foremost.
