Three events will mark Guyana’s 50th Republic Jubilee

An evening of Thanksgiving and Reflection, will be held on Feb. 16, from 4 pm to 8 pm in the auditorium of New York City Health + Hospital, 82-68 164th Street, in Jamaica, New York, to start three events in honor of the 50th Republic Jubilee Anniversary of Guyana.

Consulate General of Guyana, New York, the Permanent Mission of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana to the United Nations and Guyanese in the Diaspora Inc. will host the event under the theme “Guyana Together Reflect, Celebrate, Transform.” The salute will continue with a Republic Anniversary Reception on Monday, Feb. 17, from 11 am – noon at the Schenectady City Hall Rotunda, 105 Jay St., Schenectady, New York.

An Evening of Guyanese Culture on Feb. 23, (Republic Day), will showcase the multicultural talents of a wide cross-section of entertainers, in the Founders Auditorium, Medgar Ever College, 1650 Bedford Ave., Brooklyn from 5 pm – 7 pm.

Additionally, a competition was launched on Jan. 6, 2020 for Guyanese at home and in the Diaspora to participate in a challenge dubbed GT50 video challenge. Under the theme “What can Guyana at 50 do, to catapult its advancement on the world stage.”

The competition was opened to Guyanese at home and in the Diaspora, between the ages of 14-18 years old. The first prize is a return trip for two to Guyana / New York or New York / Guyana and a Microsoft Surface Pro Laptop 120GB. Prizes will also be awarded to 10 finalists.
