As Anonymous Vibez Mas takes a “Journey Around the World” this Labor Day, the band will also be revisiting the “heritage” of carnival, according to band leader Latoya Legall Williams.

“We will be bringing back the heritage of the carnival to the modern-day society,” said Trinidadian-born Legall Williams in a Caribbean Life interview.

“Anonymous Vibez Mas is showcasing the lifestyle of carnival by bringing together key stakeholders in the market of carnival, hence the image, culture, art, music, fashion and soul of carnival. Anonymous Vibez Mas promotes that energy,” she added.

Legall Williams said the production, “Heritage: A Journey Around the World,” comprises three mixed sections: Bienvenue en France (Welcome to France), Tales of Africa and Tazi Hava.

Legall Williams, who has been participating in the Brooklyn-based West Indian American Day Carnival for the past 11 years, said each section will comprise 45-50 masqueraders.

She said masqueraders come from various countries “due to our section leaders who are from different parts of the globe.” She did not identify them.

“Preparation has been going very well, due to the great help from our wonderful friends and family,” she said, adding that masqueraders “can expect great vibes on the road, great food, and great music and outstanding costumes.”

Masqueraders will also sway to “various DJs, alongside with a phenomenal rhythm section on the road,” Legall Williams said.

The mas camp is located at 1145 Eastern Parkway, between Utica and Rochester avenues.
