India beat West Indies by six wickets to clinch the three-match series in the third and final One-Day International (ODI) 2-0 at the Queen’s Park, Oval, Port of Spain. One match was abandoned because of rain.
Chasing a daunting 255-run target in 35 overs under the Duckworth/Lewis method, India cruised to the finish line with 15 balls to spare.
Captain Virat kholi (114 not out) produced another masterclass batting and with Sheryas Iyer, who once again produced excellent support, hitting a 41-ball 65. They shared a 120-run partnership for the fourth wicket after India were in trouble after losing Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant out in the same over.
Kholi went on to record his 43 ODI century, the second in succession, with came off 94 balls.
In form Rohit Sharma was unfortunate to get run out early in the chase after a terrible mix out.
Fabien Allen (2-40) was the top wicket-taker, while Kemar Roach was the only other bowler to take one wicket.
When West Indies chose to bat after winning the toss they got a flying start from Chris Gayle (72) and Evin Lewis (43) to reach 115 when the first wicket of Gayle fell to a catch by Kholi.
Gayle playing with what looked like his final 301 ODI game came out in a positive mood and put the Indian bowlers to the sword, reaching his half century off just 30 balls.
He followed Lewis after striking 72 off 41 balls with right fours and five sixes.
When the Windies went off at the rain break they were 158 for two after 22 overs. On the resumption, they were able to add 82 off the remaining 13 overs to end on 240 for 7.
