Barbados’ Junior Squash National Team returned home from Trinidad and Tobago over the weekend sporting trophies of victory in another Caribbean championship.

The youngsters copped their third successive overall Caribbean Area Squash Association Championship, and in the process senior Caribbean champ, Meagan Best, picked up her seventh junior title and Khamal Cumberbatch laid claim to his seventh individual crown.

The Bajans came home with a total of four individual titles as Eboni Atherley captured the Girls’ Under-13 title category and Phoebe Gittens brought home the Under-11 trophy.

The Bajan girls emerged top in their category but the men had to settle for second place to Guyana. Their overall team points however made these powerhouses the number one team again, followed by Guyana in second and Jamaica third in this competition for persons 19 years and under.

Having just reached 19 years and still below the threshold of junior, Meagan Best is a double-title holder as she is also the Senior Caribbean Champion. But she told the media on return to Barbados that being the boss in the upper category did not make competing among the juniors any easier.

“Every game and every opponent are different. I still remain just as focused and I am just as nervous at the start.

“Next year will be my final junior year, along with Jada and Jodie Smith-Padmore. So, of course, we want to do something special in our final appearance in Bermuda,” Best said.
