Barbados were crowned West Indies Women’s Twenty20 Blaze and the regional women’s double-crown champions following an unbroken third-wicket stand between world-rated all-rounder Deandra Dottin and West Indies women’s teammate, Kycia Knight, which formalized an eight-wicket victory over Guyana at the Guyana National Stadium recently.

Dottin smashed six fours and two sixes in the top score of 43 not out, from 28 balls and Knight made 24 as the Barbadians successfully chased a modest target of 86 in the final match of the tournament under lights.

Earlier, a strong bowling performance led by West Indies women’s pair of Hayley Matthews, the Barbados captain, and Shakera Selman helped them restrict the Guyanese to 85 for 7 from their allotted 20 overs after the tournament hosts won the toss and chose to bat.

In the run chase Barbados had slipped to 28 for 2 in the ninth over, before Dottin took over with an explosive batting to get them to victory with 23 balls to spare.

The win meant the Barbadians played unbeaten throughout the two tournaments, winning both women’s titles. They had captured the Super50 Cup just l0 days earlier, during which they also did not lose a match.

Jamaica finished second place after defeating Trinidad and Tobago.
