West Indies trashed Afghanistan inside three days in the first one-off Test match at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Stadium in India last week to win by nine wickets.

Shamarh Brooks struck a maiden Test century and rookie spin-bowler Rahkeem Cornwall became the first West Indian to claim 10 wickets in the subcontinent, as the Caribbean side needed just 33 runs for victory on day three of the five-day game. Final scores were Afghanistan 187 and 120 — West Indies 277 and 33/1.

On another bowler’s day 15 of the 16 wickets fell to spinners. West Indies managed to secure a first innings 90-run lead, after being dismissed for 277 in their first innings.

Brooks, unbeaten overnight on 19, faced 214 balls and struck 15 fours and a six to complete his century in his third Test after making his debut last August in the Caribbean.

Left-handed opener John Campbell made 55, his maiden Test half century — in his sixth match — while wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich chipped in with 42 in his first Test appearance in nine months following an injury.

Afghan debutant left-arm spinner grabbed five for 74, captain Rashid Khan claimed three for 114 while Zahir Khan, another left-arm spinner supported with two for53.

First innings top-scorer Javed Ahmadi led again with a polished 62 as the hosts crashed to 120 all out.
