Cricket West Indies (CWI) Vice President, Dr. Kishore Shallow says that in a bid to take the players fitness up a notch in the region, the Professional Cricket League (PCL) franchises will be outfitted with physios, strength and conditioning coaches.

This, he said, would lead to more employment opportunities in cricket for many others involved in the game in the region.

Dr. Shallow, president of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association (SVGCA) said that one of the problems affecting West Indies performances is fitness.

“We have to ensure that all is in place to take the players fitness up to international standards and we believe that if we start at the PCL level, we will make a serious impact here. We are firstly going to improve fitness for the franchise system,” he said.

Dr. Shallow said CWI will foot the bill of having these professionals on board to assist the franchises, adding, that “we are going to centralize them and assist in this way and we expect all of the professionals to be from the Caribbean providing even more opportunities in cricket for more people.”
