Eighteen Caribbean legal luminaries were inducted into the Eminent Caribbean Jurists Hall of Fame when the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) Academy for Law hosted its inaugural Eminent Jurists Gala and Award Ceremony at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain, recently.
The awards ceremony saw legal minds from the Caribbean gather to honor the contributions of the region’s distinguished judicial officers and legal professionals. It is the first of its kind in the region.
Of the 18, five of whom represented the most outstanding and long-serving honorees and were conferred with a lifetime award.
They were Justice Anthony Lucky (Trinidad); Sir Shridath Ramphal (Commonwealth of Nations); Judge Patrick Robinson (International Court of Justice); Ambassador Dr. Bertrand Ramcharan (United Nations Refugee Office); and Professor Duke Pollard (Caribbean Court of Justice).
The CCJ Academy for Law is the educational arm of the CCJ, which was established, to, among other things promote the recognition of judges and other legal practitioners who have made a consequential and lasting contribution to Caribbean jurisprudence and to memorialize that contribution.
In addressing the gathering CCJ President Justice Adrian Saunders lauded the work of the Academy for Law in celebrating “the work and achievements of distinguished Caribbean women and men who have made their mark in their chosen field.”
