Senator Kevin Parker, who represents Brooklyn’s 21st Senate District, that encompasses sections of Flatbush, East Flatbush, Midwood, Ditmas Park, Kensington, Windsor Terrace and Park Slope, thanked Governor, Andrew M. Cuomo for his leadership and forward thinking, by allowing students from The Bahamas to relocate in New York.

“I am proud of Governor Andrew Cuomo for his leadership and forward thinking by allowing students from the Bahamas affected by Hurricane Dorian to reposition themselves here in New York State,” said Sen. Parking, who referred to the Sept. 1 Hurricane Dorian, that destroyed the Grand Bahama and Abaco islands, as the reason for this gesture.

In a recent statement to Caribbean Life, Sen. Parker said, “I applaud Governor Cuomo for understanding the hardships that have been plagued upon our neighbors in the Caribbean and putting forth ready action to help those, some of whom their entire life have been affected, the opportunity to continue their education at a SUNY school.”

“Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the State University of New York would offer in-state tuition for the 2019-20 academic year to students from the Bahamas who have been displaced by Hurricane Dorian,” said Sen. Parker, a lifelong Brooklyn resident.

The politician who has the honor of serving his community as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Telecommunications, and on the Senate Standing Committees on Finance; Rules; Alcoholism & Substance Abuse; Insurance; and Banks, just concluded his twelfth annual harvest fest, where 1000 backpacks were handed out.

The politician, who introduced legislation affording student-athletes compensation, is also instrumental in giving college bound students an opportunity to select prom outfits at his annual prom dress give away, in partnership with agencies in Brooklyn.
