Trinidad and Tobago women footballers — the Soca Princesses — have clinched a place in the CONCACAF Women’s Championship (CWC) after their final match in the Caribbean Zone of the competition at the National Stadium in Kingston recently.

Trinidad and Tobago finished strong with a 3-0 victory over Bermuda to complete the five-team round robin with three wins and one loss to gain nine points.

Jamaica also qualified after winning four of their games.

However, Trinidad and Tobago will face an uphill task of qualifying for the 2019 FIFA World Cup, when the eight teams of 2018 CONCACAF Women’s Championship gets underway from Oct. 4-17 in the USA.

The Soca Princesses were drawn in Group B alongside giants USA, Mexico, and Panama, whom the Trinidad Women drew and lost to a few months ago.

The groups and match-ups were set during the Final Draw which took place recently in Miami, Florida.

Group B features Canada, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Cuba and the three top teams from the tournament will qualify for the 2019 World Cup finals to be held in France in July.

The tournament features eight countries divided into two groups of four with each group top two finishers after round-robin play.

The winner of the semifinals matches and third-place match will qualify directly for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The United States, Canada, and Mexico received automatic berths into the CONCACAF Women’s Championship. Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica and Cuba earned their berths at the Caribbean qualifying tournament. The USA heads Group A.
