Former United States Attorney General Eric Holder is on vacation in the home of his parents, Barbados, to which he returns annually not only for rest and relaxation but also to catch up with developments in his ancestral land.

Accompanied by Prime Minister Mia Mottley and Attorney General Dale Marshall, he toured a government and community complex that bears his name in the rural parish of St Joseph.

“It is nice to see how wonderfully maintained this is and how important this is to this community,” the man who served as American attorney general under President Barack Obama said of the Eric Holder Jr Municipal Complex that he declared open nine years ago in the district of Horse Hill.

The Eric Holder Jr. Municipal Complex houses the Tamarind Hall Branch Library, a post office and District “F” Magistrate’s Court and Police Station.

Government Information Services reported the island’s Attorney General, Marshall, who is the parliamentary representative of the parish, saying to Holder, “I know that you have indicated an interest in giving tangible support to the use of that library, especially by our younger children, and I look forward to engaging with you further on that particular exercise.”

Mottley described the former American attorney general as an illustrious Barbadian, who represents the best of this country’s values. “He has had a distinguished career in the United States and is globally recognised as one of those citizens who has upheld the rule of law in this very difficult and challenging time in the world’s history,” she said, according to GIS.

Holder observed that Mottley and Marshall were engaged in a serious process that would help this nation deal with the problems that confronted them when they came to office.

“I have great confidence in her abilities. She is not only a colleague I respect, she is a friend and I think Barbados is indeed very lucky to have her leading this great nation,” he said.
