West Indies is still ranked 9th in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings after their drawn three-match Test series against Sri Lanka in the Caribbean recently.
The regional team won their opening Test in Trinidad by 223 runs, drew the second Test in St Lucia and then lost the third in a low-scoring game by four wickets in Barbados.
Windies will now go into their second phase of the home series against Bangladesh with 72 points.
Sri Lanka came into the series ranked sixth and maintained its spot and will now carry 91 points into the team’s next encounter which is against England.
Bangladesh which is currently in the Caribbean will play two Test matches, one in Antigua and another in Jamaica.
They will also play three ODIs and two Twenty20s in Florida in the U.S.
The West Indies will have an opportunity to move up the rankings ahead of eight- place Bangladesh if they win the series.
If Windies win the series 2-0 they will move to 77 points and Bangladesh will slip to further 67 points.
If the series ends in a draw only Bangladesh will lose as they will move down to 75 points and the West Indies will retain 72 points which they currently have.
If Bangladesh wins the series they will narrow the gap on seventh-place Pakistan.
