Consul General Atherly calls on Guyanese to recommit to independence ideals

Consul General of the Republic of Guyana to New York, Hon. Mrs. Barbara Atherly called on Guyanese to recommit to Independence ideals and pledge to work selflessly with each other for their country, during her remarks to welcome fellow citizens a May 25, flag raising reception at Brooklyn Borough Hall.

She added, “may we continue the journey towards further progress of the country, towards a very blessed future as, “Six Peoples Working and Living together in Unity.”

The diplomat, who was presented with Citation from Brooklyn Borough President, Eric Adams, for our outstanding work in the diaspora, told expats at Guyana’s 52nd Independence Anniversary festivities, that they must continue the journey towards Guyana’s progress, and towards a very blessed future as six peoples working and living together in unity.

Mrs. Atherly extending warm greetings on behalf of the Government of Guyana, the diplomat corps and consular corps, during an evening of pride celebrated in the Rotunda of the municipal building.

Mrs. Atherly, who served the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), in many parts of the world for over twenty years, and joined with other diplomatic offices to host the event, reminded the gathering of Guyana’s pristine beauty that abounds in its 83,000 square miles, adding that there is much to be proud of.

“Our delightful climates, our natural resources, the people, the progress, the strides towards development are all inspirations to resolve towards unity, said the diplomat who participated in many events to celebrate her country’s unity and pride.
