Thirty-two-year-old title fighter, Guyanese Elton ‘The Bully’ Dharry said he trains extremely hard and is confident he will hammer his Mexican opponent, Oscar Mojica, when the two meet in the ring on May 18, in what will be Dharry’s 29th professional fight.
The bantamweight, who began his career at age 11 in the rural village of Leguan on the Essequibo River, Guyana, has an impressive record of 14 knockouts, and is expected to thrill fans at Amazura Hall, 91-12 144th Place in Queens. The fight time is 7 pm.
The Uprising Promotions and New Mexican Promotions presentation will showcase the skills of the U.S. national fighter, who turned pro in Guyana in 2004.
Dharry told Caribbean Life that he prepares himself well, mentally and physically for every fight and this one will be no different as he puts his training to work.
Despite his soft-spoken demeanor, this prizefighter who trains at Brooklyn’s renowned Gleeson’s Gym, is ready for a showdown with the Texas-based Mojica. He brings a wealth of experience to the ring and packs a punch. He won the WBC CABOFE title, and 10 others in a row.
He told this reporter that he has spent many years of his life fighting to represent Guyana, in the hardest sport in the world, and he hopes to gain the support of Guyanese, when he represents them in the upcoming bout. There are six other fights on the card.
“I don’t know if I will knock my opponent out, but I will do everything in my power to do so and win,” said the boxer who, as recent as March, was on the first Resort World Casino boxing card, at the Aqueduct in Queens.
“For as long as this fight lasts, it will be entertaining,” said the WBC title champion, who scored a magnificent TKO win over Robles in 2015, according to reports.
Dharry, who no doubt received good advice when he met former heavy weight champion, Evander Holyfield — sounds confident that this fight will be a ‘Thriller in Queens” as the hype continues to attract boxing fans from everywhere. Reports states Dharry is out to prove that his last fights were no fluke, and Guyanese, and fans alike, who are lining up for a front-row seat would not be disappointed.
With ticket sales soaring, $60, $75 and $100 ringside, at the “Making of Champions” event — promoters are encouraging fans to secure their seats before they are all gone.
