In recognition of her many contributions of economic development and diplomacy, Geneive Brown Metzger, LLD Hon received the 2018 Clare Boothe Luce Award for International Service from The J. Luce Foundation at the foundation’s annual gala on March 1, at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in New York City.

Dr. Brown Metzger served as Jamaica’s consul general in New York between 2008 and 2012. She is currently an investment and trade analyst focusing on the Caribbean. Her company, Gladvic Productions LLC, produces Caribbean-related content, including about investment opportunities in the Caribbean.

“I have a tremendous amount of admiration for Dr. Brown Metzger’s accomplishments,” said James Luce, CEO and founder of the J. Luce Foundation. “She was at the top of our list when the board and I discussed candidates for the Award.”

In addition to her consulting practice, Dr. Brown Metzger also serves as president and executive director of the American Caribbean Maritime Foundation. The organization is dedicated to alleviating poverty and transforming lives of Caribbean students through maritime education and community development. The main beneficiary of ACMF support is the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU). Based in Jamaica, the CMU is the Caribbean’s regional maritime training organization. The J. Luce Foundation has established The Clare Boothe Luce scholarship at the CMU.

The award is named for Clare Boothe Luce, who was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and the first female U.S. ambassador. She was a charismatic and forceful public speaker — a Renaissance woman — whose life embraced international service.
