The Organization of American States (OAS) says its Electoral Experts Mission to the general elections in Grenada, led by OAS Assistant Secretary General Nestor Mendez, began its deployment on Wednesday ahead of the March 13 poll.

The OAS said Ambassador Mendez arrived in St. George’s, the Grenada capital, Wednesday night.

He will lead a team of six experts from Belize, Jamaica, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United States.

On Thursday, the OAS said the Chief of Mission and the Supervisor of Elections in Grenada, Alex Phillip, will sign the Electoral Procedures Agreement, which establishes the framework for the work of the Mission in Grenada.

“The electoral experts will also immediately commence their interactions with stakeholders in-country,” the OAS said.

It said the Experts Mission will focus on “analyzing key aspects of the electoral process, including the electoral registry, electoral organization and technology, and campaign financing.”

The OAS said the team will also gather information about the status of the recommendations made by the OAS Mission to the 2013 elections.
