Guyana Jaguars win regional tourney

Guyana Jaguars are the 2017-2018 Digicel Four-Day champions after their nearest rivals Barbados Pride settled for a draw with Windward Islands Volcanoes in their rain-affected match recently.

The Jaguars completed a nail-biting, two-wicket victory over Jamaica Scorpions inside three days in their eight-round match last month at Sabina Park, Jamaica, which took them to 166.8 points.

It was the Jaguars fourth straight win to take the Headley / Weekes Trophy, symbol of Windies first-class supremacy, for the Guyanese team.

Barbados finished in second place with 144.4 points, Leeward Islands, third with 94.9 points, Jamaica Scorpions fourth with 93.6 points, Windward Islands, 85.6 points and Trinidad and Tobago Red Force last with 82.4 points.

It was an embarrassing time for the T&T Red Force, which played l0 matches –winning two, losing five and drawing three matches.

The Red Force batting struggled throughout the four-day tournament with Captain Denesh Ramdin the only consistent batsman throughout the tournament.
