Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a visit to Trinidad and Tobago in December this year.
This was disclosed by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley in Georgetown, Guyana, recently during a joint news conference with Guyanese President David Granger following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the Energy Sector Co-operation between Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago.
Rowley said a CARICOM meeting will be held in Trinidad on Dec. 3 and 4 to discuss the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).
Rowley said the presence of Modi from India is just as a visitor and a supporter of the efforts of the CARICOM.
Rowley said the issue of the CSME was raised at a CARICOM meeting in Guyana two years ago and at another meeting in Montego Bay, Jamaica, a few months ago he asked for a specific meeting to treat with CSME, which was supported by the CARICOM heads.
In April, Rowley and Modi met and engaged in bilateral discussion during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London.
Modi, indicating during the meeting that his government was interested in partnering with Trinidad and Tobago in information communication technology (ICT), energy and pharmaceuticals.
