The new Permanent Representative of Suriname to the Organization of American States (OAS), Niermala Badrising, has presented her credentials to OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro.

“The global and interconnected nature of the 21st century challenges require collective actions to find solutions that transcend national borders,” said Badrising at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Friday at OAS headquarters.

She also highlighted the need for “renewed multilateralism, one that could be based in an integrated approach and one that could be more in tune with the principles of international law and international relations.”

Almagro welcomed back Badrising, who had served in the same position between 2012 and 2015.

He emphasized the “productive working relationship” he had maintained with Badrising during her tenure as minister of Foreign Affairs, according to the OAS.
