They want to set a new record.
Several runners from Jamaica’s 4×200 relay team got to talk about their goals for the forthcoming Armory Track Invitational at Park Central Hotel in Manhattan on Feb. 2. The press conference highlighted their upcoming plans for the Feb. 3 –4 event.
Jamaica’s eight-runner team is set to run in the Armory track games, and individual athletes will run in the Millrose Games, which will be held the following week. The team’s coach expressed the excitement for their return to the track meet.
“This is the second year we’ve been invited and I’m very excited,” said Dalton Evans head coach of Jamaica’s team. “Last year we set the record for the men in the 4×2. The national record was 126.69 and this year we will smash that record, because our guys are running much bigger than last year.”
And there is also a new addition to the team this year, said Evans.
“We didn’t have a women’s team last year but we will have one this year,” he said.
Other countries will be represented at the sports event, but eyes will be on Jamaica’s runners, said the meet director. And this year more athletes several milestones.
“We have two huge meets here in New York City and over 50 colleges in the country competitng in exiting 4×2 and 4×8 meter races and the best teams are United States and Jamaica of course,” said Ray Flynn, meet director. “Millrose Games is also in it’s 110th year next weekend. And we 57 Olympians and 14 medalists competing, so it’s quite exciting.”
Evans says he is also happy to be a part of the event and see the other Olympians and medallists.
“We’re just excited, we’ve been invited, and I’m looking forward to Veronica Campbell-Brown,” he said.
The Armory Track Meet will air on NBC Sports channel, and the Millrose Games will air on NBC.
