Guyana Consulate services, Christmas cheer on Dec. 16

Consul General of Guyana to New York, Barbara Atherly has announced that the once a quarter Consular services, started in September of this year, will return on Saturday, Dec. 16, from 10 am to 2 pm, at the Guyana Consulate, located at 308 W 38th St., New York City.

The diplomat noted, in addition to Consular Services, however, there will be a Guyanese Christmas celebration, filled with cheer and goodwill, during which, citizens would be given an opportunity to send-out Christmas greetings to friends and family, both in the diaspora, and back home.

Mrs. Atherly told Caribbean Life that the first Consular services offered three month ago, was a resounding success, and as such, the consulate looks forward to serving all Guyanese who, because of their busy workweek schedule, are not able to visit the consulate during regular business hours.

She has said in the past, that the consulate worked very hard to enhance services in an easier, friendlier way, and has implemented an automated telephone system, and launched an interactive, user-friendly website (www.guyanaconsulatenewyork.org).

In addition to outreach programs that have serviced Guyanese in Schenectady, New Jersey and Connecticut, and the boroughs, the consulate now has in place, machine-readable passports, accepted through a mail-in system.

Applicants could use overnight / express mail, with tracking ability for exact record keeping, as well as for the applicant’s peace of mind.

Some of the services being offered include, passport application, marriage certificates, pension certificates, notarization, emergency travel documents, birth certificates, and death certificates, among other services.
