Windies win Twenty20 series

Rain caused West Indies to win its Twenty20 series (2-0) against India in Florida after the second game was abandoned just over half way through the match.

India appeared to be on course to level the series at 1-1 on 15 without loss when rain intervened and washed out the remainder of the game.

With the outfield soaked, the match was abandoned 90 minutes later, three short of the point (five overs) at which a result could have been decided via the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Saturday’s match in Ft. Lauderdale saw West Indies winning by one run in a high-scoring Twenty20 international in history.

The Twenty20 World champions pulled off a brilliant victory in the final over when Dwayne Bravo stepped in to bowl with India needing eight runs for victory and two off the final ball, he got captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni caught at backward point to spark wild celebrations among the West Indian fans.

On the first day, West Indies scored 245 off their 20 overs with Evin Lewis scoring 100 with five sixes in the 11th over of the innings bowled by Stuart Binny, while opener Johnson Charles rushed to a half century off just 25 balls with four fours and three sixes.

India made 244 of their 20 overs.

Lewis hit the second fastest century in international Twenty20 by a West Indian after Chris Gayle’s 47-ball century against England.

West Indies 245 was the third best in the history of Twenty20. Sri Lanka remains in the top position with 260 / 6 against lowly-placed Kenya.

New Twenty20 captain Carlos Brathwaite praised the players for their support during the match and singled out Bravo saying, “he bowled like a true champion.”
