New York-based Guyanese designer, Stacey Angoy received loud applause at a 50th Independence Fundraiser in Rosedale Queens, recently, when she showed off her Stacey A Collection designs, set for the Guyana Fashion Week 2016 to celebrate Guyana’s Jubilee.

The eclectic line designed from African fabric, will be one of many other collections on the runway of the Arthur Chung Convention Center on the East Bank of Demerara, as part of the festivities to celebrate Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary.

Angoy’s design philosophy is simple, but enthralling. Each piece signifies the assertiveness of a woman when she is dressed-up. From whimsical skirts, to dresses, and matching accessories of scarves, and head wraps, and clutches, the pieces are beautifully designed, for all occasions.

The Stacey A Collection also highlights masculine style, in “dressed to impress” bow ties, and pocket-handkerchief designed from decorative African textile.

Angoy’s design sensibility and inspiration comes from a strong female upbringing. Both her mother and grandmother were seamstresses who instilled in her a strong sense of entrepreneurial skills.

“For many years, fashion design was a deferred dream of mine,” said Stacey who found her niche after attending the New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology.

The multifaceted artist learned early her love of the arts. With these skills nurtured from an early age, Angoy attended Guyana’s prestigious Bishop’s High School, before attaining a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from the City University of New York.

The Stacey A. Collection is inspired by vibrant African prints framed in modern and regal silhouette, and made to order.

The growing brand, she added, will expand beyond fashion. “I aspire to build a brand with lasting legacy, modern style and cultural aesthetics. One of my goals for the brand is to inspire women to dream and pursue their dreams,” she said.

And while Angoy makes time for her husband, Lumumba, and son, Nathan, Stacy A. Collection “made in Guyana” is a dream in the making, she said.

She said participating in the launch of Guyana Fashion Week 2016 gives her a sense of pride and concluded that the Stacey A. Collection would launch its first spring / summer collection, which inspires classic resort wear with an essence of jubilation and festivity.
