Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary will get a big boost on Sunday, May 1 when entrepreneur Pamela McKenzie brings the colors of the Golden Arrowhead flag to her Annual Mother’s Day Fashion Show and dinner.
St. Gabriel’s Golden Hall at 331 Hawthorn St. in Brooklyn will be decorated in red, green, yellow, white and black colors, at the themed 50th Independence Anniversary Jubilee event that will showcase Guyana’s beautiful culture, under the title: Elegant Evening of Pearls and Rose.
The stage is set for the 6 pm to 12 midnight, pre-Mother’s Day affair, that McKenzie said would give patrons who do not party on a regular basis, the opportunity to outfit themselves in elegant attire, and be entertained in a fabulous setting.
McKenzie, owner of Pam’s Bakery at the corner of Church and Schenectady Avenues in Brooklyn, is excited to present the pre-mother’s day gathering that will open with cocktails from 6 pm to 8 pm., before dinner, and a hat and fashion show to celebrate matriarchs.
She added that patrons who come “dressed to impress” will be asked to take part in the fashion show, that has thrilled attendees for the last six years. African attire, and colorful ensembles in the past, have jazzed up the runway, and brought great entertainment to the Mother’s Day event.
“I want everyone to come out and have a good time,” said the baker and pasty maker, whose delectable fare will be on the evening’s dinner menu.
Inspired by her mother who gave birth to 11 children — eight girls, and three boys in the capital city of Georgetown — McKenzie said coming from a big family inspires her to put on the event to honor her mother.
She hosts the event every year, not only to entertain mothers, but also to say thanks to customers who patronize her bakery. She also likes to showcase her products which include bread, cakes and pastry.
The 26-year old establishment which stays open throughout the year, from 8 am to 9 pm, except for Christmas and Thanksgiving, celebrates with seasonal items, such as Easter Cross Buns, Christmas Black Cake, and birthday cakes.
The businesswoman said she wants to keep the Guyanese culture alive through her establishment, and as such welcomes everyone to partake in her food items that are reasonably priced.”
