Dr. Molefi Asante, professor and chair of the Department of African-American Studies of Temple University will be the guest speaker at the first pre-Kwanzaa cultural celebration hosted by members of the Queenstown Essequibo Guyana NY Association, on Sunday, Dec. 11.

Themed Kuumba / Creativity — to do always as much as we can, in the way we can in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it — the celebration will be held at the American Legion Hall, 1130 E 92nd St. in Brooklyn and will begin at 3:30 pm, featuring special guest Dr. Kimani Nehusi.

The organization announced that the evening’s event will celebrate family, community, and culture. African fare drumming, dancing with special artists will highlight the festive celebration, and it will be hosted by WBAI Radio, community activist and educator Okyeame.

The explanation of Kwanzaa as well as components that have specific cultural relevance to the Guyanese community will be highlighted. The event is family oriented and the attendance of children in particular is desired. Many other forms of ‘edutainment’ will bring joy and happiness to the audience.

A $20.00 donation is required and this will go towards the organization’s outreach programs.
