The West Indies team has climbed to No.1 spot in the ICC Twenty20 rankings after Sri Lanka, which had occupied the top place since they won the T20 in 2014, was beaten by New Zealand last week, pushing the regional team once more as the best in the world’s game’s shortest format.
The team has 118.36 rating points, and is now marginally ahead of both Sri Lanka and Australia, which have exactly 118 rating points each.
West Indies has played eight matches since the end of the World Twenty20 in April 2014 and won four of those games, including a world record chase against South Africa in January 2015 where the team chased down 232 in 19.2 overs.
In its last Twenty20 series in 2015, the West Indies team led by Darren Sammy drew their two-match series with Sri Lanka after winning the final game in Colombo by 23 runs.
In 2015, the regional team also enjoyed a 2-1 series win in South Africa.
While the West Indies team is on top of the world in Twenty20s, it is languishing at No.8 in Tests, after losing its three Tests in Australia recently (2-0) and is No.9 in One-Day Internationals.
