Barbados and West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder, 23 years old, has been promoted to Test captain of the West Indies Cricket Team. He is the youngest player ever to be Test captain of the West Indies Cricket Team. He has so far played eight Test matches, scored 380 runs with one century and two 50’s and has taken 16 wickets.

Holder will captain his team against Sri Lanka the West Indies face to them starting Oct. 14 to Nov. 12. West Indies will play two Tests, three one-day Internationals and two Twenty 20’s. The players will start an eight-day camp in Barbados on Sept. 20. The West Indies team is scheduled to be in Sri Lanka by Oct. 1.

WEST INDIES SQUAD FOR SRI LANKA

Jason Holder (captain), Kraigg Brathwaite (vice captain), Devendra Bishoo, Jermaine Blackwood, Carlos Braithwaite, Darren Bravo, Rajindra Chandrika, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Shai Hope, Denesh Ramdins, Kemar Roach, Marlon Samuels, Jerome Taylor and Jomel Warrican.

BRATHWAITE AND HOPE MUST PUT ON PARTNERSHIPS

West Indies young openers must take up the challenges in Sri Lanka and put the West Indies in a commanding position. Kraigg Brathwaite and Shai Hope must rotate the strike and avoid being bugged down. Brathwaite will have to correct his flaws including the way he plays the bouncer without covering up properly. Shai Hope is aggressive and he is not afraid of going after the bowlers.

West Indies batsmen are capable of scoring runs against their opponents but they have to get out of the Twenty20 style of play and focus on the duration of the innings that Test cricket demands. Maintaining a reasonable time at the wickets assists in building the structure of the innings. This tour will be a great test for the young West Indies cricketers. It is hoped that Kemar Roach gets back his rhythm to boost the West Indies’ attack.
