Bridging The Gap Fashion Show

A bevy of designers will celebrate Caribbean Heritage Month on June 12, with a multi-ethnic fashion show titled “Bridging The Gap -Connecting Caribbean Style” set to take place at Brooklyn Borough Hall from 6 pm.

Guyanese and international fashion maven, of Mariska Designs fame Sonia Noel will lead the impressive group that includes Frank Denican, Minka Designs, Mayonka Designs, 8ttava, and Christy Creations.

The one-hour fashion extravaganza that will feature an eclectic blend of classic wear, eveningwear, swimwear, urban chic and avant-garde pieces will showcase young emerging designers from the French, Dutch, English Caribbean region and New York.

Founder of the Sonia Noel Foundation for the Creative Arts and CEO of Guyana Fashion Week, Noel said the Bridging the Gap concept is an excellent platform to connect new world style from both the cross-cultural Caribbean backdrop and the dynamic Diaspora nexus of Brooklyn.

“The Caribbean region is known for its white sandy beaches, fresh winds and blues seas, but against that backdrop lies a culture embedded with a rich history of art,” said the publisher of Guyana’s premier magazine Makin’ Style, adding that music, food and fashion have played a very important role in the development of what we call “a melting of strong culture.”

Noel explained that SNFCA seeks to collaborate with all the elements of culture, while educating youth of all ethnicities about the importance of volunteerism.

“I feel very blessed to have this opportunity to lead this team to showcase Caribbean designing talent to the world, and at the same time be a part of the heroes give blood campaign,” said Noel, an award-winning designer.

Noel will be assisted by the production team comprising Richard Young, Donn Thompson, Phillipa Morrish, Steven Cutting, Joslyn Mendez, Jacques Graham, Marisca Fiedtkou Jordan, Rudiana Bumbury, Lorna Welshman-Neblett, Karen Gray and Christine Neblett.
