With just days to go before the special election, on May 5, in the 43rd Assembly District in Brooklyn, Council Member Jumaane D. Williams (D-Brooklyn) has joined a broad coalition of labor, community organizations and progressive elected officials in endorsing Diana Richardson, who is running on the Working Families Party line.

“As Council Member for the 45th District, I am proud to see that Diana Richardson is working hard to earn your vote to become our next representative in the New York State Assembly,” said Williams, chair of the City Council’s Housing and Buildings Committee.

“Many of you already know her or have met her during this campaign. Today, I write to ask for your support to vote for Diana in the upcoming special election so that our community can gain a true champion in Albany,” he added.

“Now more than ever, we need an Assembly Member in Albany who has the passion, voice and positive energy to improve our district, which is why the special election on May 5 is so important,” Williams continued.

Like him, Richardson was born and raised in Brooklyn, to Caribbean parents.

“So she thoroughly understands what this borough needs,” Williams said. “I know that she is the best candidate for the position. So I hope you join me in voting for Diana who will fight for the resources and socio-economic justice our community deserves.”

Richardson said she is “honored” to accept Williams’ endorsement, adding that his “integrity and leadership have helped to pave the way for a truly Progressive Caucus in our City Council.

“You can count on me to be a fierce advocate for working families and seniors,” she said. “This June, when Albany will be asked to make decisions on affordable housing, I’ll be your ally in standing up against the skyrocketing rents and luxury towers that are destroying, exploiting, and displacing our communities.”

Richardson has already earned the endorsements of many prominent elected officials, including New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, State Senator Kevin Parker, Assembly Member Rodneyse Bichotte, and Assembly Member Latrice Walker.

Richardson is also heavily backed by the labor community. Her endorsements include: TWU Local 100, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, SEIU 32BJ, Working Families Party, DC 37, and HAAPA-PAC (Haitian American Association for Political Action), Planned Parenthood NYC Votes, New York State Nurses Association, Make The Road Action Fund and New York City District Council of Carpenters.
