Veteran Chutney singer Rikki Jai captured two crowns at the annual Chutney Soca Monarch finals held last weekend at Skinner Park, San Fernando.
It was the first competition for the Carnival two-day celebration next week.
Ricky Jai (Samraj Jaimungal) now has a record eight crowns in the 20-year history of the competition.
Bringing his experience to the stage, he chose to collaborate with the youthful and talented Ravi B (Bissembar), a former Chutney Soca Monarch, in the two categories of this year’s competition – Chutney Soca and Traditional Chutney.
The two will share winnings of TT$2 million for the Chutney Soca Monarch and Traditional Chutney.
