Having quality players in place for the One-Day International does not guarantee winning results. This is so because the West Indies team usually apply a Twenty20 approach to One-Day Cricket and that definitely is the wrong approach. Andre Fletcher and Johnson Charles are experienced players who have been involved in West Indies cricket for a long time should be much more successful at what they do. The slugging approach particularly practiced by Charles has caused him to fail too many times but he has yet to change his approach.

Generally, an intelligent approach ought to be taken when batsmen are at the wicket and by rotating the strike this eases the pressure on both batsmen. During the Test series, Darren Bravo, to his credit showed some skill in combatting the Sri Lankan spinners but no other batsman showed the appetite to stand up and battle.

DROP RAMDIN, ROACH FROM WINDIES TEAM

Former West Indies Captain Denesh Ramdin has been continuously failing and his approach shows someone who is interested in going out in the middle. Kemar Roach has lost speed, rhythm and aggressiveness. He lacks almost every ingredient that a fast bowler should have. Roach has been injured so many times and on his return, he just looks extremely slow and unfortunately is unproductive.

HOLDER FEELs PRESSURED

So early in a young captain’s career, Holder is not given the best team and the disunity that plagues the squad is not good for winning. It will not be surprising if Holder resigns from the captaincy. During the Test series with Sri Lanka, the performance of the bowlers and the batsmen were disappointing with a squad of many young, inexperienced players and with the senior players who are underperforming. How does the West Indies Cricket Board expect good results from the senior team?

VITAL TO THE ODI SQUAD

Why the selectors should ignore Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard for the One-Day International games? These players perform well in that category of the game. It makes no sense having them in the Twenty20 and not in the ODI. West Indies cricket can never be repaired with the silly decisions that are made.
