Five nights of calypso, soca

Brooklyn’s Caribbean Carnival, 2013, comes alive at EVERYBODY’S, the Caribbean-American magazine, annual Calypso-Soca Festival & Tent. The five-nights, calypso-soca concerts popularly called a “Tent,” are Aug. 27-31 at the Tropical Paradise Ballroom, 1367 Utica Ave., Brooklyn, NY. More than 35 artists from Lord Funny to Calypso Rose and across the region are performing.

“We have a magnificent group of veteran and talented young calypso and soca artists. The orchestra, The Sunshine Band, is led by Don Diaz, son of the famed Cyril Diaz,” explains Michelle Young, coordinator of the Festival & Tent. “Fans of every age and nationality will enjoy five tantalizing nights of strictly calypso and soca plus celebration of Trinidad & Tobago 51st independence birthday.”

Ladies and VIP Nite is Tuesday, Aug. 27, 8:00 p.m. Two persons enter on one ticket. The VIP Reception begins at 6:30 p.m. Several female calypso and soca artists including Singing Diane, Sexy Suzy and Superstar Jermaine will challenge the male calypsonians such as Brown Boy and Poster. Emcees are Susan Kennedy and Fatman George.

Vincy and Nurses Nite is Wednesday, Aug. 28, 8:00 p.m. It is taste of Vincy calypso tent and carnival. Lively, Fabulous T, Cauldric Forbes, three-time Calypso Monarch D-Manage, Becket and Winston Soso are among Vincentian artists showcasing Vincy Calypso-Soca. As a tribute to nurses especially Caribbean nurses, all nurses by showing their nurse ID will be admitted for only $15.
