Sutton named CUNYAC Libero

York College junior libero Terrence Sutton (Brooklyn, NY/ Beach Channel) has been named the 2013 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Men’s Volleyball Libero of the Year. Junior Leszek Stankiewicz (Iychy, Poland/ Newcomers) has garnered First-TeamAll-Star honors and sophomore Edner Geffrard (Arcahaie, Haiti/ Centre d’Etudis Secondaires) was selected as a Second Team All-Star. Sutton ranked among the nation’s leaders in digs this season. He currently stands 13th in NCAA Division III, averaging 2.70 per set.

Against conference opponents, his numbers were even more impressive, as he averaged 3.15 digs per set. He also set a personal best in digs this season with 319, surpassing the 302 digs he had during his sophomore campaign.

Stankiewicz returned to the Cardinals in 2013 after a six-year layoff from collegiate volleyball and picked up where he left off back in 2006. The Poland native currently ranks 34th in the nation in blocks per set (0.84). Among the CUNYAC, he is third in blocks and eighth in kills per set (2.60). His .266 hitting percentage also led the team.

Geffrard, who was the CUNYAC Rookie of the Year last season, continued his outstanding play in his sophomore campaign. After missing the first few weeks after recovering from shoulder surgery, he picked up his play down the stretch. He averaged 2.34 kills per set and hit .187, while also contributing on defense, blocking 0.78 attacks per set. In addition, he had a phenomenal CUNYAC tournament, recording 32 kills over three matches to earn All-Tournament Team status.

The three CUNYAC All-Stars helped lead York to a school record 24 wins, while advancing to the finals of the CUNYAC Championship, eventually losing to Baruch College. They also earned a berth into the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Division Championships, where they fell in the semifinals to Ramapo College.
