Another care-giving center has opened in Flatbush.
Renaissance Adult Day Services opened doors on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 2625 Bedford Ave. (at Flatbush Avenue), with four hours of activity as it introduced its services to the community.
In association with the Gay Men of African Descent and the Good Dog Foundation as community volunteers, the center promises “a fresh approach to adult day services.” Its doors are open to all: “gay, straight, handicapped. Gender, race/ethnicity does not matter. The services are tailored to suit the cultural diversity of the community,” said Project Manager Christian Santos. Although Renaissance is a
for-profit organization,” he says, “it is driven by a commitment to the much-needed quality health care without discrimination.
Its president, Alexander C. Markowitz opened doors on Thursday, Dec. 12 and his culturally diverse leadership team are healthcare providers with over 10 years’ experience in the business.
They started as a licensed home care agency in Coney Island, serving the five New York City boroughs. Two years ago, they opened a branch in the Bronx at 625 East Fordham Road, and in September last year they added the social services, adult day-care dimension which is scheduled to open shortly at 787 E. 156th St.
Renaissance offers holistic care whether it’s for three hours or 24 hours, in or out of the home, by a Caregiver or Care Nurse. Services are custom-designed to serve different levels of need and cultural patterns. Caregiving services range from escorting clients to laundry, cooking, and cosmetic services, as well as personal assistance with “feeding, bathroom and incontinence, grooming, mobility, dressing, medication reminders and bathing.”

The agency also offers a multilingual, professionally-trained team with a broad range of skills and in pediatric care, wound care and medication management, physical, occupational and respiratory therapy, language and speech pathology, nutrition and social services.
The spacious Flatbush center can accommodate a range of recreational activities, exercise programs, including karaoke and socialization to benefit the body, mind and spirit. There’s a coffee- and juice bar, Skype room, and two medical rooms. What distinguishes it most is the provision of pet therapy, Wi-Fi and Skype accessibility for members to connect to friends and family around the world, the management claims.
Renaissance membership is open to clients enrolled in or eligible for Managed Long Term Care, Medicare or Medicaid, or require or qualify for Home Care.
Agencies represented at the open-house included AARP, Alzheimer’s Association, Patty Cake Theatre, Al Medina Pharmacy, Ella Dekhtyar and I Freyberg DDS PC, So-Fine Troopers Fitness Training, Church of God, and DJ Luko, all vendors.
