When the West Indies faces India in November their task will be a huge one particularly in bowling. If West Indies batsmen concentrate and play their specific roles it should not be a difficult task for them because all of these batsmen have played many times against the Indian bowlers.
West Indies batsmen must take heed to what is taking place with Australia and India. The wickets in India are good to bat on and careless stroke play must not be tolerated. Some West Indies batsmen tend to be careless and recklessly throw their wickets away. Three well known Indian bowlers always cause some problems for West Indies batsmen. They are pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who is a wicket taker for India against any opponent; Ravindra Jadeja, the slow medium pacer, who West Indies batsmen sometimes fail to pick up his line, and the dangerous Ravichandran Ashwin, the right-arm spinner, who normally causes huge problems for the West Indies.
West Indies Head Coach Ottis Gibson has to establish a comprehensive plan based on playing intelligent cricket.
Without the mystery spinner Sunil Narine, many cricket pundits are saying that the West Indies chances of winning the Test series are slim. A great deal depends on spinners Veerasammy Permaul and Shane Shillingford to excel. Shillingford has shown some ability at the Test level to strike but on those hard batting wickets in India, he has his talents to show off.
West Indies bowlers must perform well in India in the Test series. They must pick up wickets frequently and put pressure on the Indian batting. Captain Darren Sammy and Head Coach Ottis Gibson have the task of identifying India’s batting weaknesses and targeting specific batsmen. With Sachin Tendulker in the Indian squad, along with Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan, West Indies must bowl well and be very penetrative.
When the West Indies Test series starts with India, it will be a tough call on Kirk Edwards and Narsingh Deonarine to make the final 11. It is important that two specialized spinners play in the Test. If the selectors chose not to play both spinners, then Narsingh Deonarine will get the nod as an allrounder and a middle order strength. Kirk Edwards gets in if Darren Bravo flops. The final 11 looks like:
Darren Bravo, Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Tino Best, Marlon Samuels, Shane Shillingford, Kemar Roach,Veerasammy Permaul, Darren Sammy [captain], Kieran Powell and Denesh Ramdin.
