Metro-Manhattan Chapter, The Links Incorporated and Alpha Gamma Lambda Chapter, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated held their “Young Achievers Ceremony at the Harlem State Office Building at Melba’s Restaurant for 10 Young Achievers who have graduated from the 2011-2012 program and high school, and are moving on to a new phase in their education.

The program has enhanced the lives of the Young Achievers and exposed them to new ideas, skill development and growth opportunities. Highlights from the 2011-2012 program include: College Information Fair, Oratorical Contest, Financial Literacy Workshop, College Essay Writing Workshop, Etiquette Dinner and Career Day.

All 10 of the Young Achievers will be attending college this September and are anxious and excited about the transition to the next step in their lives.

Carlos Rivera, associate director of admissions, Lehman College was the evening guest speaker. Young Achiever, Oratorical Contest Award Presentation was given to honoree Vaughn Mesquita, 1st Place Young Achiever, Class of 2012. Special guest honorees were Janifer Lighten, Barbara Delany,Harry Delany, Michelle D. Foust and Michael Bryant.
