Soca star Machel Montano who described himself as “Mr Fete,” has copped an unprecedented hat-trick for 2012 when he took the Road March title with his song “Pump Yuh Flag.” He scored back-to-back wins having captured last year’s Road March with his tune “Advantage.”

This is Montano’s fifth Road March win.

At a news conference held at the Queen’s Park, Savannah, Port of Spain last Wednesday, President of the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organization (TUCO) Lutalo “Brother Resistance” Masimba announced the results for the most popular songs played collectively at all band judging points.

Montano’s “Pump Yuh Flag” was played 233 times at the Queen’s Park Savannah, with his closest rival, Fay-Ann Lyons-Alvarez’s “Miss Behave,” coming in second with 96 plays and Neil “Iwer” George’s “No Pain” rounding up the top three with 84 plays.

Montano captured the Power Soca Monarch and Groovy Soca Monarch titles on Fantastic Friday with the tune “Pump Yuh Flag” and “Mr Fete” to give him a hat-trick of titles.

Meanwhile, masman Brian McFarlane captured his sixth consecutive Band of the Year title with his presentation, “Sanctification… In Search Of,” in the Large Band category. His first win came in 2007 and repeated the victories over the next six years.

Second place went to Trini Revellers “Carnival the Golden Years and third place was Legacy’s Flight.
