West Indies players Darren Bravo, Devendra Bishoo and Kirk Edwards are among 10 international players nominated for the Emerging Cricketer of the Year at the annual ICC awards ceremony, which will take place in London on Sept. 12.
To qualify for the award, players must be under the age of 26 and have played fewer than five Tests and/or l0 ODIs and five Twenty20s at the start of the voting period, which lasted from Aug. 11, 2010 to Aug.3, 2011.
Bravo, 22, who made his Test debut in Sri Lanka in November, has scored 518 runs in eight Tests (Ave: 39.84) and 517 runs (Ave; 32.31) in 18 ODIs during the period.
Since his first international appearance at the World Cup in March, Bishoo, 25, has taken 21 wickets (ave: 35.42) and 19 scalps in 11 ODIs (Ave:21.57, Econ: 4.18), Edwards, 26, earned international recognition in June after scoring ll0 on debut to help West Indies draw the third Test against India in Dominica.
He has also managed 153 runs (Ave; 19.12) in nine ODI appearances since March.
Embattled West Indies all-rounder Chris Gayle was short-listed for the People’s Choice Award along with Indian Captain MS Dhoni, Sri Lankan Captain Kumar Sangakkara, Englishman Jonathon Trott and South African Hashim Amla.
West Indies Women’s allrounder Stafanie Taylor and offspinner Anisa Mohammed were among 15 players short-listed for the Women’s Player of the Year award.
There are no West Indians among the 17 candidates for Cricketer of the Year award. However, Dominican Billy Doctrove was one of 12 umpires nominated for the David Shepherd Trophy.
The nominations were decided by a five-man panel chaired by and current chairman of the ICC cricket committee, Clive Lloyd.
