Caribbean musical stars in concert

The first Annual Caribbean Brightest Stars Concert will take place on June 18 at Club Gravity 229 Empire Blvd., Brooklyn, N.Y.

What better place to celebrate Caribbean American Heritage Month than in Brooklyn, the place with one of the largest Caribbean populations in North America.

The Caribbean Recording Industry Association and Ocean Breeze Music Festival & Conference will host some of the best undiscovered talent; the red carpet will be rolled out for these artists in honor of the musical cultural heritage that emanates from the Caribbean.

Headlining the event will be ragga soca artist Michael Sparkey Drakes of Guyana currently residing in Antigua.

Sparkey is the 2009 best Reggae/Dancehall artist at the NYC Underground Music Awards and the 2010 Best International Reggae artist at the Toronto Exclusive Magazine Awards for his song Zion Gate for Haiti.

Also headlining will be reggae rock artist Lenny Deneb of St. Lucia, a former member of the 1980’s group Cygnus out of London, and a former Greensleeves artist. The soul gospel reggae duo Sons Zion of Trinidad & Tobago, the winners of the contest held through Sonicbids, a Boston based company.

Featuring soca artist Samantha the lead female singer of Vision2000Inc., of Antigua & Barbuda, reggae artist Kurt Warmington of Jamaica, kreyol hip hop artist Bennchoumy of Haiti, reggae singer Riquey Bingham of Jamaica, soca artist Yonnette Mystique Hooper of Guyana, alternative singer Leeia of the USA and Bronx based hip hop artist Goldilocks.

The event will begin with a “meet and greet” at 10:00 p.m, followed by a variety of musical performances from soca to kreyol hip hop to rock reggae.

Caribbean Recording Industry Association through its brand Ocean Breeze Music Festival & Conference hopes to set a trend within the Caribbean community by offering a venue to talented artists who would not normally get the opportunity to perform. The aim is to expose the incredible music and culture coming out of the Caribbean.
