WICB looks to 2015 to be champions

West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) chief executive officer Dr. Ernest Hilaire believes that in four years the regional team will be challenging for the top spot in world cricket.

“The reality is we are targeting 2015 when we believe we should have a side which can compete to be world champions,” Dr. Hilaire said.

“We are very clear in our minds that for the next two years we want to broaden the pool of players who have experienced at the international level and for the last two years (2014/2015), which we can draw upon for that championship side,” he added.

Dr. Hilaire is pleading for patience saying, “It is going to take time, it is going to be frustrating at times.”

He noted that the new approach by the WICB is unconventional in taking West Indies cricket forward but necessary.

“We stated clearly last year that we are at the bottom (of the world rankings), we’ve been doing things a particular way for the last 15 years, it has not brought us success,” said Dr. Hilaire.

The West Indies cricket administrator explained that the regional team would be built around players with the right attitude.
