The Bahamas’ DeVINE Treasures

“All Over This World,” the recently released single of The Bahamas’ multi-talented vocal group, The DeVINE Treasures, has made musical history for both The Bahamas and the Forbes family from which the youth are descended.

Their music is available globally not only as an ITunes download but also as a ringtone for IPad phone users.

The offspring of poets, Ricardo and Karen Forbes, The DeVINE Treasure siblings, ranging in age from 12 to 17, are musical composers, poets, and songwriters who have embarked on a mission of encouraging positive thinking and living through the uplifting words of their music. They are Karsteeno, 16, Kanemera, 14, Kastarra (“Star”), 12, Kanraniyah, 13, and Karsten, 17.

The song, “All Over This World,” initially presented itself in the creative mind of the group’s drummer, Kanraniyah, who together with his elder brothers Karsten and Karsteeno, moved forward to professionally polish it to its present soul-inspiring state.

Kanraniyah’s very unique drum is a five-gallon water bottle whose powerful beats can be heard in the vocal background.

The group has performed at varied churches and other venues in The Bahamas from The International Underground Railroad Conference, Bahamian Idols television show, and the PLP National Convention in Nassau to Cat Island’s popular Rake ‘n Scrape Festival. They have been radio guests on JunkanooTalk, the island’s leading radio talk show, as well as 100 Jamz’s Randy’s Morning Show.

This musical triumph, however, came as a mixed blessing in the midst of six of the seven Forbes children being placed into two foster care centers in Nassau. The parents relate that although they faced dire financial challenges, they were nonetheless happy and creatively productive as a close-knit unit. They are working arduously to be reunited as a family in 2011.

The talented and vibrant DeVINE Treasures are illustrative of the immense treasure house of talent languishing not only in foster care, but prisons, shelters, nursing homes, and other such institutions across the world.
