West Indies opening batsman Chris Gayle, who scored 333 against Sri Lanka in the first Test recently and moved into the Top 10 of the ICC Batting Rankings, has dropped out of the top 10 rankings following scores of 30 and 3 in the second Test match in Colombo recently.
Gayle, who reached a career-peak 10th after making 333 in the first Test in Galle, lost 27 points to drop to 14th with 728.
Teammate Shivnarine Chanderpaul managed to maintain his sixth position despite scores of eight and zero not out in Colombo. He is currently tied with Sri Lankan Mahela Jayawardena on 781 points.
Sri Lanka Captain Kumar Sangakkara, who scored 150 in the same match, displaced India’s Sachin Tendulkar as the world’s leading batsman.
The other West Indies players in the top 50 are Ramnaresh Sarwan (30th), Brendan Nash (47th) and Dwayne Bravo (49th).
Darren Bravo jumped seven places to 80th on the strength of his knock of 80 in Colombo, while opener Adrian Barath fell from 81st to 96th with disappointing scores of eight and three.
Fast bowler Kemar Roach continued his steady climb up in the bowling charts with his match haul of five for 115 pushing him up five places to 28th. He surpassed offspinner Sulieman Benn (31st) in the process.
The discarded Windies fast bowler Jerome Taylor dropped from 15th to 17th, the injured Fidel Edwards fell from 23rd to 26th and Bravo (Dwayne) stepped up two places to 24th.
South Africa’s Dale Steyn (860) remains at the top of the bowling list followed by England’s Graeme Swann (831) and India’s Zaheer Khan (751).
