The Brooklyn-based Caribbean American Center of New York (CACNY) says it is collaborating with popular soca artiste Lyrikal in hosting its 7th annual free back-to-school and sports day.

Trinidadian-born Jean P. Alexander, CACNY chairperson, said “a multitude of events and live entertainment for the entire family” will also be provided during the event this Sunday, Aug. 25, from 1 pm. to 5 pm.

She said the event takes place at its usual location, the monument base at Cadman Plaza Park, 195 Cadman Plaza West, downtown Brooklyn.

Alexander said CACNY will also host its annual “Fun-Raiser Party” on Sept. 28, at Brooklyn Commons, 495 Flatbush Ave., Brooklyn.

Other up-coming events include CACNY’s 21st Annual Christmas Party for Children in low-income families and those residing in New York City’s homeless shelters.

In addition, Alexander said CACNY will hold a College Financial Aid Seminar & Scholarship Information session.

“CACNY is a resource center for minority parents and youth questioning different loans, grants and private scholarship information,” she said. “We invite speakers from banks, colleges, lending institutions and counselors to assist with filling out the applications.”
