Job training program for unemployed youth

Staten Island: Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has signed a bill creating “NY Youth Works,” an inner city youth employment program that will combat high unemployment in the state’s metro areas. The new law includes $25 million in tax credits for businesses that hire unemployed and disadvantaged youth and $6 million to support job training programs. The governor was joined by his colleagues from the State Legislature at a bill-signing ceremony last week at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. Comment

Press conference protests NYPD tactics against Wall St. protest

Staten Island: Last week, just days after the six-month anniversary of its historic protests, and as the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement (and the NYPD) gear up for a milestone demonstration on May 1, 74 people were arrested as hundreds converged on Zuccotti Park on Saturday, March 17. Several protestors sustained injuries, as did some police officers. Comment
