Arts & Theater: On the heels of a very successful medical mission to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the United Vincie Cultural Group of Brooklyn (UVCGB) two Saturdays ago conducted another very successful cultural show at the Meyer Levin (I.S. 285) Intermediate School in Brooklyn. Comment
Long Island: For the eighth successive year, thousands of Vincentians from all walks of life – trekking from as far as Toronto in Canada, Miami in Florida, and even from the homeland — converged on Heckscher State Park in East Islip, Long Is., a New York City suburb, for the grand Vincy Day USA picnic. Guyana: Antigua The Antigua and Barbuda government says its future plans for the cash-strapped regional airline, LIAT, will fly as far north as Florida, stopping in places like Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. Comment

Arts & Theater: Vincentian and other Caribbean nationals on Saturday joined members of the Garifuna Diaspora in New York in participating in the annual “Culture Pot” hosted by the Brooklyn-based Garifuna Indigenous People of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Inc. (GIPSVG) at the Friends of Crown Heights Educational Center in Brooklyn. Comment

New SVG Caribbean Bakery in town

Brooklyn: Four years after Cynthia Bernard, proprietor of Ethlyn’s Bakery, on Nostrand Avenue in Brooklyn, went to the Great Beyond, her brother and sister-in-law are now the new owners of the bakery, renaming it SVG Caribbean Bakery. Comment
Long Island: As thousands of Vincentians from all walks of life gear up to attend the Eighth Annual Vincy Day USA, at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, Long Is., the new chairman of the Brooklyn-based group says everything on stream for the grand extravaganza on Aug. 17. Comment

Vincy community leader passes on

Brooklyn: Brooklyn-based Vincentian community leader Augustus L. “Bonnie” McMillan died on July 22 after ailing for about two years, according to Wayne Raguette, president of the group, Vincentian American National Charities, Inc. (VINCI), who succeeded McMillan after his affliction. McMillan was 64. Comment

Garifuna’s painful experience visiting motherland

Immigration: From the time our people were forcefully removed from Baliceaux, St. Vincent & The Grenadines where they were imprisoned, tortured, killed and buried in 1797 to Roatan, Honduras their lives have never been the same in the countries of Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Belize and the United States of America where they live today. This act of genocide that was committed by the British against us has never been addressed and forcefully challenged by our government in St. Vincent and The Grenadines. Comment
Bronx: The Bronx-based St. Matthias Charities, Inc., on July 13 held another successful annual BBQ fundraiser to help medical institutions, the less fortunate and various communities in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Comment
