Poetry Society of New York & Books Are Magic Present Pride Month Micro-Residencies

From Elizabeth Bishop to Audre Lorde to Carl Phillips, LGBTQ poets have played a vital and undeniable role in shaping and elevating American literature. The Poetry Society of New York plans to promote this legacy with two Pride Month Micro-Residencies in June lead by writers Emma Sheinbaum and C.J. Strauss at the Society’s program partner, the Books Are Magic shop in Brooklyn, New York. Sheinbaum, the founder & co-editor of quarterly literary journal A Velvet Giant, hosts her residency on June 15 and 16 from noon to 4 p.m. Strauss, a queer up-and-coming writer/ artist pursuing a B.A. from Barnard College, will have their residency on June 29 and 30, also from noon to 4 p.m. The Poetry Society of New York designed the Micro-Residency program to support literature by giving writers time to work in stimulating environments and the public a glimpse into the writing process.
